CalmRound on Android: answers over your phone meeting

When the interview runs in a meeting app on your phone, the screen is taken. Install the CalmRound Android app: your computer listens and writes the answers, and the phone keeps them floating over the meeting so you never switch apps.

Android

For meetings that run on your phone · APK

A computer is still required. A phone cannot hear the call audio while the meeting app is open, so the computer does the listening and answering and the phone only shows the answers. Android 8.0 or newer.

The download link appears here once the signed package is published.

Install it from this page only. Your phone will ask you to allow installs from this source, and to let CalmRound display over other apps (some phones call it "Floating window"); Android 13 and newer also ask for notifications.

When to use it

Made for a meeting that runs on the phone

The computer listens and answers

Put the phone on speaker next to the computer. On the computer pick Speaker mode, and it hears the call and writes the answers.

The phone only shows

The answer floats over the meeting app. Font size and transparency are adjustable, and one tap on the screen shows the buttons or hides the overlay.

Your phone screen stays private

You share the computer screen, not the phone. The other side sees the meeting app; the overlay sits on top only for you.

The phone cannot interview on its own. While a meeting app holds the call on your phone, no other app can record the other side's audio and the microphone belongs to the meeting. That is why the answers come from the computer; the phone is the screen you look at.

How it works

Three steps, about five minutes the first time

01

Set up the computer

Install CalmRound on Windows or macOS and sign in. Run the microphone check, then pick Speaker mode for a meeting that plays from your phone.

02

Install the Android app

Download the APK above and open it. Allow installs from this source, then allow "display over other apps" and notifications.

03

Scan and start

On the computer open View answers on phone to show the QR code. Scan it with the phone, or type the six-digit pairing code, then tap Open overlay.

Do not share the phone screen. The overlay appears black in a shared phone view and the other side will notice. Share the computer screen and hide the computer overlay before the interview.

What changed for Android in 1.0.112

  • The overlay fits the answer: it grows and shrinks with the text, so long answers no longer need manual resizing. In the expanded view the latest question is one live line, which leaves more room for the answer.
  • Latest answer on top: the answer view no longer shows the question and puts the newest answer first. The default font is 15sp, about 30% more text per screen, and it is still adjustable.
  • Out of the way: the Fusion-mode toolbar fades out after five seconds and comes back when you tap the screen. Closing the overlay returns straight to the app.
  • Background keep-alive: a new setting keeps the connection alive while you switch to the meeting app. A persistent notification says CalmRound is running in the background and can be turned off.
  • Fixes: no more black strip at the bottom of Fusion mode; if the QR code will not scan, type the six-digit code next to it.
FAQ

Android app questions

Can the phone run the interview by itself?

No. While the meeting app is open on the phone, it keeps the call audio and the microphone, so no other app can hear the interviewer. The Android app is a companion: the computer listens and writes the answers, the phone only shows them.

The overlay covers the meeting buttons. What do I do?

Tap the screen once to show its buttons, then move the overlay, change its size or transparency, or hide it. When you share the computer screen, hide the computer overlay with Ctrl+~ as usual.

The connection drops when I switch to the meeting app

Open the Android app settings and turn on the background keep-alive, allow notifications, and make sure the phone's battery saver does not clear the app. The persistent notification makes the system far less likely to cut the connection.

How do I update the Android app?

Use the update check inside the app, or download the latest APK from this page again. Installing over the old version keeps your sign-in and your materials.

What about iPhone?

There is no iPhone app. Your iPhone can still show the answers: scan the code from your computer and read them in the browser. The interview itself still runs on the computer. How phone view works →
